About Us

The Chevra Kadisha of Cincinnati

For nearly 40 years, the Chevra Kadisha of Cincinnati has been available to assist Jewish families with organizing traditional and respectful burial procedures for their loved ones. Formed in 1984 by a small group of volunteers headed by Mrs. Susan Shapiro and Rabbi E.M. Indich זצ״ל , the Chevra provided a single organized source for families in Cincinnati and the surrounding area seeking tahara and burial according to Jewish law, services which had until then been carried out mostly by individual synagogues or funeral homes. In the words of Rabbi Indich, the purpose of a chevra kadisha is “to provide dignity and respect for the deceased.” It is our privilege to help families honor their deceased loved ones through accessing the deeply meaningful mitzvot of tahara and Jewish burial.
